Bill to Create Green Jobs, Revitalize WNY Economy

Assemblymember Gabryszak: Bill would help create new green jobs and revitalize WNY’s economic development

Assemblymember Dennis H. Gabryszak (D-Cheektowaga) announced the Assembly passed a bill he authored that would create the New York State Innovative Energy and Environmental Technology Program, an initiative that would provide capital grants to small businesses to encourage and support the growth of innovative energy and environmental technology (A.5149-B).

“The success and development of innovative energy and environmental technology-oriented businesses is essential to building our economy right here in Western New York,” Assemblymember Gabryszak said. “By providing financial assistance to companies working to create good-paying jobs in green technology, we can attract more businesses to our region, and in turn help boost our local economy.”

Assemblymember Gabryszak: Governor’s budget proposal includes several projects to stimulate growth

Recently, Governor Cuomo proposed his 2012-13 budget. The main focus this year is to revitalize our state, attract new businesses and create thousands of jobs for our hardworking families with a $15 billion investment in infrastructure projects and new economic activity. In the coming months, I will work to pass an on-time budget focused on re-establishing prosperity in Western New York.

A multi-year $1 billion economic development package for Buffalo is included in the proposal. For this year, the proposal includes $75 million for the Buffalo Regional Innovation Cluster to work toward bringing $5 billion in new economic activity to Buffalo, giving the area a much-needed boost to train our workers for new jobs, improving our infrastructure and encouraging private sector re-investment. As new businesses set up shop in our region, countless opportunities for Western New York families are sure to be created.

Assemblymember Gabryszak: EmPower NY Helps Low-income Families Lower Energy Costs

Winter can be one of the most difficult times of year for many people living in our
region. In Western New York, winter usually means snow, ice and freezing temperatures,
which can become a grave concern for some households. Low temperatures make home
heating important during the winter months. But many low-income families do not have
the money for the winter months rising heating costs.

This winter, heating affordability could become more pronounced, as federal
funding was reduced for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), possibly leaving
some families in Western New York with the dilemma of whether to pay for food or pay
for heating. However, there are alternative programs available to reduce energy use and
stay warm this winter for those who may not get the funding they need through HEAP.

Assemblyman Gabryszak Focuses on Continuing Last Year's Success

“With today marking the beginning of the legislative session, Western
New York can be confident that last year’s successes will continue into
2012. The ‘Three Part Plan’ Governor Cuomo outlined for 2012 will help
to strengthen New York’s economy, specifically Western New York,
where the governor promised $1 billion to invest in job creation and
growth. Our residents shouldn’t have to relocate to find good paying jobs
and this allocation is an investment in our future. Western New York will
no longer be overlooked.
“The rebuilding of New York began last year when Governor Cuomo
outlined a plan emphasizing job creation, economic competition,
government transparency, and property tax relief. This plan was executed
with the passage of ethics reform, a 2% tax cap, tax cuts for the middle
class, creation of the regional economic councils as well as creating a
business friendly climate. Rebuilding our state will continue and I look
