Congressman Higgins Announces New 'Congress On Your Corner' Locations

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced the June schedule for his Erie County edition of the Congress on Your Corner program, which provides local residents with access to the Congressman’s office through satellite office hours at locations in the district.   Over 600 Congress on Your Corner events have been held over the last five years and another 135 outreach events are scheduled for 2011.

This summer, members of Congressman Higgins staff plan to visit locations across Erie County to provide specialized assistance with various federal agencies.  In addition, staff will visit several public libraries throughout Erie County to provide constituents with computer literacy training for those interested in navigating federal agency websites.

“Today, I am proud to announce that I have co-sponsored the much needed tax cap legislation (A.7916), which will cap property taxes at 2 percent or at the rate of inflation – whichever is lower. The tax cap will provide relief to Erie County residents who have been shouldering the burden of some of the highest property taxes in the Country. This crucial cap will help rein in our out of control property taxes, while making sure our communities and schools aren’t going to suffer because of it.”

Congressman Higgins Meets with U.S. Secretary of Transportation to Discuss Peace Bridge

On Wednesday, March 30 Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27), a member of the House Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security Committees, met with United States Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood to discuss the Peace Bridge project in Western New York. 

Congressman Higgins released the following statement detailing the meeting:

“Yesterday I had the opportunity to sit with Transportation Secretary LaHood and share with him directly how critically important the Peace Bridge is to integrating Western New York’s economy with booming Southern Ontario, relaying the essential link this project provides to jobs and growth at our educational, cultural, sports, airports, medical and retail destinations.   

“There is a new level of commitment from the federal government never before seen on the Peace Bridge project.  Secretary LaHood, his staff and the Administration are informed and engaged with a clear understanding of how important this project is for

 Recharge New York, Excelsior Jobs program and Regional Economic
Development Councils will help bring create jobs and boost our local
economy.

       Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak (D-Cheektowaga) announced that the
2011-12 state budget creates the Recharge New York power program,
strengthens the Excelsior Jobs program, forms Regional Economic
Development Councils and provides capital funding for projects
necessary to jumpstart Western New York’s economy.

       “Western New York has the natural resources and the manpower to take
full advantage of the economic development initiatives included in
this year’s budget,” Gabryszak said. “We have the University at
Buffalo and Niagara Falls right in our backyard.

Assemblyman Gabryszak Announces District-wide Survey

New York State Assemblyman Dennis H. Gabryszak (D, I, C, WF –Cheektowaga) sent out a district wide survey that ask taxpayers their opinion on important issues, some of which be soon voted on in the  Assembly.

The survey included questions on property tax-cap, drug testing for welfare recipients, hydrofracking, and collection of taxes from Indian reservations legalization of gay marriage and civil unions, and banning of e-cigarettes.

“A district wide survey allows me to gauge how constituents feel about important issues that affect their daily lives,” Assemblyman Gabryszak said. “As their legislator, the best way I can properly represent my constituents is take in to account their opinions and concerns.”

The survey also provides constituents the option to offer ideas or comments for the Assemblyman.
