Jacobs to Deliver Nearly $8 Million to Local Governments

Says Mortgage Tax Collections up 16.8% Over Same Period Last Year

Erie County, NY-Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs announced his office will soon distribute to local governments throughout the County their share of the Erie County Mortgage Tax collections based off of real estate transactions recorded in the Clerk’s Office. The total to be distributed on May 15th is $7,896,969.86 and covers the six month period October 1, 2012-March 31, 2013. This amount is 16.8% higher than the same period last year.

“Record low interest rates have fueled both refinancing and home purchases throughout Western New York. This is a positive development for Erie County’s municipal governments since mortgage tax distributions are a major source of revenue for many of the County’s cities, towns and villages,” stated County Clerk Jacobs.

Jacobs’ Office Responsible for 50% of County Surplus

Says proud of role Clerk’s office plays to support critical services while keeping down taxes

Erie County, NY – Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs reported today that his office accounted for 50% of the overall county surplus. Jacobs’ is referring to the County Comptroller’s report released yesterday which shows an overall budget surplus of $4.27 Million, and “roughly 50% of the county’s entire operating surplus,” came from the County Clerk said the Erie County Comptroller in his budget close-out report.

“We were proud to report our over $2 million dollar surplus several months ago but the fact that we contributed such a large percentage to the County’s overall surplus is quite significant,” said Jacobs. The Clerk’s Office represents only 4% of the County’s work force but is responsible for one-half of the 2012 County’s surplus.

County Clerk Creates Web-Link for New Gun Law Privacy Provision

Designed to distribute “Opt-Out” form directly to permit holders

Erie County, NY –New York State’s recently passed gun law “NY SAFE ACT” allows pistol permit holders to request that their information be kept private and confidential. The law directs the New York State Police to create an application to allow permit holders to be exempt or “opt-out” from public disclosure.

Jacobs Ends Year with $2.1 Million Surplus in Clerk’s Office

Erie County, NY- Chris Jacobs is ending his first year as County Clerk earning $2.1 million dollars extra for Erie County taxpayers he announced today. “This additional money does not stay with the Clerk’s Office but goes into the County’s General Fund,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs credits the implementation of management reforms that resolved the massive paperwork backlog he inherited in the Land Records Division, which resulted in depositing over $3 million dollars in un-cashed checks. Additionally, the surplus was helped by a robust real estate market and a stepped up campaign to urge Erie County residents to renew their automobile registrations locally to keep critical fee revenue in Erie County versus it all going to Albany.

County Clerk Chris Jacobs thanked M & T Bank and presented Nora Antonucci, Vice President of Bankwide Transformation for M & T Bank, with a Certificate of Merit for being instrumental in leading the Working Group through the “Re-Engineering” initiative.

State of the Town Address to be given at Cheektowaga Chamber Luncheon

Cheektowaga Town Supervisor Mary Holtz will give the annual “State of the Town” Address at the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on Thursday, January 24 at 12 noon at the Millennium Hotel Buffalo, 2040 Walden Avenue.

“This luncheon is a tradition for us. We have been honored to host the State of Town Address at our January Luncheon for more than 20 years. We feel it is important that we provide a forum for our members and the community to hear the accomplishments in the Town during the past year and the goals for 2013,” said Debra S. Liegl, President and CEO of the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce.
