CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - The Cheektowaga Police department is investigating an accident involving one of their officers.

Captain Jim Speyer says a patrol supervisor was on duty shortly before noon when his car struck a 69-year-old woman. She was crossing at the intersection of French and Borden Roads when she was hit by the patrol car, which was making a left turn onto French Road.

The victim is being treated at ECMC for a broken leg.

The officer, a 20-plus year veteran was on routine patrol and not responding to a call at the time.

"Our first concern is the well being and speedy recovery of the victim," said Captain Speyer. "We are very thankful that she will be ok."

The department has asked for help from the Erie County Sheriff's office and District Attorney's office to provide an independent look into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
