Neighborhood Crime Watch Encouraged in Some WNY Communities
News

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - Police and public officials in the border neighborhoods of Cheektowaga and Buffalo are calling on residents to get more involved in efforts to combat crime, keep properties clean, and maintain pride in their community.

This task force will try to organize even more crime watch groups. Captain Jim Speyer of the Cheektowaga Police said, "A nosey neighbor is our best customer when it comes to crime prevention. And that's what we encourage. We encourage people to look out their windows to see. They know who belongs in the neighborhood, who's not right, who you know might be up to something. And they can call us and we never mind coming out and checking it out. If it's nothing, it's nothing. If it's something that we can solve and prevent... then that's our job."

Buffalo and Cheektowaga officials are trying to work together and exchange more information to improve quality of life in border neighborhoods.
