Vigil for Cheektowaga Park Shooting Victim
News

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- A prayer filled vigil took place Thursday night for a 19-year-old who was shot and killed in a park last year.

Ira Watkins died May 31, 2011 when police say he got caught in the cross fire when gunshots broke out in Cheektowaga Town Park, where he had gone to play a game of basketball.
His sister Rachelle Davis not only lost her brother, but her mother also passed away six months after her son was killed.

"They say it gets easier, but they don't I think about him everyday and for my mother to be gone now too, it's a double," said Davis.

Rachelle is now helping to raise Ira's two year old daughter.
After nearly a year of investigating, 18-year-old Dontre Jones was arrested in February for the murder of Ira Watkins.
