Garlic Mustard Challenge Volunteers Successfully Battle Invaders

 

The Western New York Land Conservancy, Friends of Reinstein Woods and the Buffalo Audubon Society are pleased to announce the winners of the fifth annual Garlic Mustard Challenge, a competition designed to improve habitats in three Western New York nature preserves.

South Buffalo Alive’s 15th annual Garden Tour, showcasing approximately 50 beautiful properties throughout South Buffalo and the Old First Ward neighborhood, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 19. 

The Garden Tour includes a wide variety of homes and businesses showcasing amazing gardens, landscaping and other outdoor features. There are several first-time stops on this year’s self-guided tour, according to South Buffalo Alive’s Marge Ryan.

‘Double Up Food Bucks’ Returns to Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market on July 4

 

The popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, continues on Saturday, July 4. Hours at the open-air market, a program of the Elmwood Village Association, are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, through November. 

The “Double Up Food Bucks” program is back for a second season and will be available at the market from July 4 through the end of October. The program provides low-income individuals who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with a $1 for $1 match (up to $20) to purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. West Seneca’s Outdoor Farmers’ Market to Return on May 14

 

Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s popular open-air farmers’ and food producers’ marketplace sponsored by the Western New York Federal Credit Union, will return for its second season on Thursday, May 14. The weekly event will take place on Thursday evenings through Sept. 3 on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, next to West Seneca Town Hall.

The outdoor venue will feature approximately 20 full-time (16-week) and 10 part-time (eight-week) vendors selling a wide variety of products. For updates on participating vendors, please visit Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca on Facebook.

Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market Announces Annual Poster Competition

 

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market will hold its fifth annual poster contest to promote the outdoor market’s upcoming 2015 season. Entries for the poster competition are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 6. Whether you’re a student studying the arts, a professional graphic designer or just someone with a creative streak, you’re invited to submit your design for an 11x17-inch color poster that accurately reflects the feel of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market.

A new indoor farmers’ and food producers’ market will open inside the new 3,000-square-foot home of The Pasta Peddler and Blackbird Sweets, located at 1547 Hertel Ave., Buffalo, on Saturday, Nov. 22. The 20-week market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through April 4.

The popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, continues its 15th season on Oct. 25. A program of the Elmwood Village Association, the market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, rain or shine, through Nov. 29. 

Providing musical entertainment on Oct. 25 (weather permitting) will be violinist David Adamczyk from 9:30 to 11 a.m, followed by Monica Huntz from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Occupying the market’s community tables this Saturday will be Asha Sanctuary, GA Family Services Foster Care and Cornell University. Additionally, Weiss Farms will be bringing their popular pumpkin wagon back to the market on Oct. 25!
