WNY STEM Hub, SUNY Buffalo State and the Girls Scouts of America Teams up with AT&T to Launch the Region’s First All Girls Coding Program to Close the Tech Gender Gap 

AT&T, WNY STEM Hub, SUNY Buffalo State and the Girls Scouts of Western New York have partnered to create the region’s first computer coding program exclusively for girls, It’s Your World! Develop It! Powered by AT&T, to encourage more women to enter the field of technology, specifically coding, an industry that is alarmingly male-dominant.

Tom McDonnell, director of Dog Ear Bookstore & Café, would like to thank the South Buffalo community and beyond for supporting the nonprofit organization’s annual gala, held on April 30 at the Buffalo Irish Center.

“The entire community stepped up to help make this event — our largest annual fundraiser — a great success,” said McDonnell. “Thanks to our many volunteers and everyone who donated auction items, their time and money, we will be able to continue our community outreach and extensive literary programs.”

McDonnell would like to extend a special thank you to the 30 volunteers from RealtyUSA who worked both day and night to guarantee the success of the event, including Matthew Whitehead, manager of RealtyUSA’s West Seneca office, and his 5-year-old daughter Olivia. 

County Clerk Chris Jacobs and AAA Western and Central New York teamed up with AT&T, Erie County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police to raise awareness for AAA’s 100 Deadliest Days for Drivers - the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when teen crash fatalities historically climb, the AT&T “It Can Wait” campaign and state distracted driving laws. Distracted Driving Awareness Day in Western New York was hosted May 3 at the Erie County Auto Bureau in the Town of Tonawanda, where young drivers, parents and all those that visited the auto bureau were educated about the dangers of distracted driving.
