Assemblyman Gabryszak Meets With Buffalo-Niagara Partnership in Albany

Assemblyman Gabryszak meets with Buffalo-Niagara Partnership in Albany

Last night, Assemblyman Dennis H. Gabryszak (D, I, C, WF –Cheektowaga) met with the Buffalo-Niagara Partnership, business and community leaders, as well as other elected official, where Unshackle Upstate Director, Brian Sampson, presented an analysis of the 2011-2012 NYS Budget.

“We need to grow, promote, and advocate for local businesses in our region,” said Assemblyman Gabryszak.  “This is a main focus of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and I think the Western New York Delegation can work together with their organization to help with our regions economic growth.”

The Partnership was enthusiastic about Recharge NY, Economic Development Initiatives, the Excelsior Program, and a 2 percent cap on property taxes that will benefit Upstate significantly. They also described how cuts to Roswell could severely devastate the WNY economy and how important Roswell is an important source of revenue for the state.

“Not only is Roswell Park Cancer Institute an internationally-renowned facility and a jewel of our community, but it employs over 3,000 Western New Yorkers and provides a 5:1 return on investment to our community,” said Buffalo Niagara Partnership Vice President Craig Turner. “These cuts, which we feel are disproportionate to other cuts being made across the state, put Roswell at a serious disadvantage not only in 2011, but for any long-term planning and future job creation. The funding must be restored.”

“Along with my fellow members of the Western New York Delegation, I will continue to fight for Roswell Park,” said Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak. “I know firsthand the impact that Roswell Park has on the community and we can’t afford to see such severe cuts.”

The Buffalo Niagara Partnership was also present at the WNY Delegation meeting earlier in the day to discuss UB 2020, and how it could be Western New York’s largest single economic development plan in our regions history.
