Fr. Thaddeus Bocianowski, pastor of St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr, commemorates the seventh anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II during a special mass on Monday, April 2, 2012. The special Papal Mass included a litany to Pope John Paul II as well as veneration and display of the relic.
Pope John Paul II reigned as leader of the Catholic Church from 1978 until his death on April 2, 2005. As a Polish Cardinal, the then named Karol Wojtyła celebrated mass at St. Stanislaus in 1969 and 1976. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI beatified John Paul II as part of the process to sainthood. In 2012, with the securing of a rare relic of the former Pope, Buffalo Bishop Edward U. Kmiec named St. Stanislaus Church an official shrine to the Blessed John Paul II.
