Northtown Subaru Dog Days of Kenmore set for June 10

There are many festivals and events throughout Western New York for you and your family members each spring and summer, but what about the other important member - your family dog?

 

The Northtown Subaru Dog Days of Kenmore has the answer. This free event for canines and their people will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Mang Park along Mang Avenue, between Military Road and Wilber Avenue.

 

The event will includes more than 100 dog vendors, adoptable dogs, dog sports, demonstrations, six food trucks, treats for canines, live music by Skiffle Minstrels and more. Also at the event, attendees will be able to sign up for several competitions, including a dog-owner look-alike contest, coolest trick, best dog costume, best costume, and the Stephanie Mang Best Dog Joke Contest.

Their website says that “Jim Sandoro and his wife, Mary Ann, have spent more than 45 years collecting memorabilia, antique vehicles and historic artifacts to visually display the rich transportation history of Western New York.” That statement says a lot, yet somehow, it doesn’t come close to capturing the enormity of that collection, a portion of which is on display at the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum in downtown Buffalo.

Explore Buffalo Plans Festive Holiday Season Tours

The Buffalo tour season is far from over! Explore Buffalo will take you inside downtown buildings, Blessed Trinity Church, Goldome Bank, St. Mary’s School for the Deaf and even the subway. Three City of Light Bus tours are also offered in December along with the December Spotlight Tour of the new Curtiss Hotel.

Advance reservations are encouraged but not required for all tours. Reservations are required for City of Light bus tour and the Curtiss Hotel Spotlight tour. All credit card payments must be made in advance. Advance reservations with a credit card can be made online until the tour starting time; cash or checks are accepted at the start of the tour. If you make an advance reservation, please print your confirmation email or be prepared to show it on your phone. Most tours are between 90 minutes and two hours in length. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather!

Collectors & Artisans Expo to Benefit Two Local High Schools

Two high schools located in Buffalo’s Irish Heritage District will benefit from the second Collectors & Artisans Expo taking place just one week before St. Patrick’s Day in the historic Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road, South Buffalo.

The Saturday, March 10 event will feature dozens of local vendors and artisans selling a wide variety of merchandise, from antiques, collectibles and memorabilia to unique handcrafted items.

A portion of the proceeds collected at the event — including 100 percent of the $2 admission price — will be donated to Mount Mercy Academy and Bishop Timon - St. Jude High School. The Buffalo Irish Center will also receive a portion of the proceeds.

Eight-week Holiday Market on Bidwell to Open November 25

The eight-week Holiday Market on Bidwell, presented by the Elmwood Village Farmers Market, opens from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, inside St. John’s Grace Episcopal Church, 51 Colonial Circle, Buffalo, just steps away from the outdoor market’s location at Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway. The market will continue every Saturday through Jan. 13.

The Holiday Market will feature approximately 20 vendors, including local farmers, food producers and artisans offering a wide variety of products. Vendors scheduled to participate include Alpine Made, Barrel & Brine, Biscotti for Everybotti, BreadHive Worker Coop, Butter Block, Carla’s Crumby Creations, Darling Bee, Fetch Dog Treats, Kindred Kreek, Lilly Belle Meads, Native Offerings Farm, Niagara Mushrooms, Plato Dale Farm, Rooted Locally, Victorianbourg Wine Estate and Whimsy Confections.

Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association to Introduce Rowing Team for High School Boys

The Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association (BSRA) is inviting high school age boys to join the newly established Team BSRA Boys. Rowing experience is not required and there are no cuts — everyone practices and everyone competes!

Rowing is a four-season sport and BSRA teams compete locally, nationally and in Canada. Rowing is also a non-contact sport that provides a full-body exercise. There are opportunities for athletes of all sizes.

Team BSRA Boys is open to any high school boy who wants to be part of a competitive rowing team and is currently attending a school that does not have a rowing program.
