‘Love Everybody 5K Walk/Run’ to Remember Young Runner

 

Applications are still being accepted for the “Love Everybody 5K Walk/Run” taking place on Saturday, June 15, at Northwood Elementary School, 250 Northwood Ave., West Seneca. The event is being held in memory of Devin Miller, a sixth grade student at Northwood and an avid runner who lost his life in December 2012 after being struck by a car.

Cabela's to Open Store in Cheektowaga

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY--  An outdoor store that some believe is even bigger than Bass Pro, is coming to Western New York.

Cabela's is opening it's first store in New York state in the old Wegmans store location on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga.

Construction will begin later this year, with a planned opening in the fall of 2014.

"We are very excited to bring the Cabela's retail experience to New York," said Cabela's Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner in a statement. "We have thousands of loyal customers across the state who are passionate for the outdoors and who share the Cabela's lifestyle. Cheektowaga's proximity to Canada, where we also have a loyal following, makes this the perfect location."

The store is expected to employ up to 200 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees.

Rollover Accident on Harlem near William

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - Cheektowaga Police officers were on the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Harlem Road near William Street at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday which left this SUV upside-down in a driveway.

A police officer told us the driver was taken to Erie County Medical Center with possible back or neck injuries. Two other vehicles were involved in the accident but were able to drive away on their own power.

Emergency personnel from Doyle Hose Company also responded.

There was no word on whether any charges would be filed.

Cheektowaga Police Investigate Deadly Accident

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - Cheektowaga Police are investigating a deadly accident on Bennett Road.

The accident happened just before 4 p.m.

Investigators say 94-year-old Lucille Papero was heading east when her car veered off the road and struck a tree.  Papero died at the scene.

There's no word on what caused the accident.

Catholic Charities Service Corps Offers  Grads Try at Job Force, Chance to Help Others

Are you, or do you know, a young adult searching for an exciting, meaningful way to jump into the job force? Perhaps post-graduation plans are still unclear or a current career is unfulfilling. Catholic Charities Service Corps (CCSC) offers college graduates a year-long chance to develop and share their gifts, education and faith in a unique manner.

CCSC is now accepting applications from graduates of all faiths who are at least 21 years old and willing to challenge themselves by committing to service/social justice, community living, simplicity and spiritual growth for one year, beginning in August.

Service Corps members work full-time with marginalized populations in various non-profit agencies in Buffalo and surrounding areas involving education, legal aid, advocacy, social services, medical field and counseling, while living together in community with other volunteers.
